FMP Idea

Around this time last year, a brief was set to design and create a zine. Unfortunately the brief didn't quite go to extent i'd hoped, I wished of designing a full zine, getting it printed and finished. Instead of doing individual zines, each student was required to submit 2 spreads to fill a zine that would go on show down at FreeRange, London.
Feeling that I had only really touched on the matter of Print almost how it is becoming a dying trade more so the Litho route, and arguements that Digital should take over to enable us to just receive advertisements, newsletters etc via email to save on money/time and cost. Working in the print trade I would disagree with this concept of everything going digital, so Im hoping to take this original idea of mine, to create a zine called "Bleed" to show good examples of print and why print should stay.
The zine if you haven't read my previous blog post, will be named "Bleed" to signify how the trade is slowing dying almost bleeding, it is also to comply with the print term bleed when colour is bled off the edge of your document to prevent a white edge appearing after being trimmed. The front cover originally designed was to be printed 2 colour, and would have the colour and text fully bleed across the page to coincide with the printing term bleed again. This design in my opinion could possibly do with a revamp as it does look slightly dated? But I won't start the re-designing just yet as this idea still has to be pitched to my tutor and the rest of the students.

• This was the First idea I had, like mentioned above the idea was to just bleed the background colour and the text fully off the page

• This was the Second idea I had, this one is very similar to the one above. This cover just has a much neater layout, the text on the background is type set to create this vertical column through the centre of the cover, the colour has also changed to what I think was solid Cyan??

• This is the Third design, which im probably least keen on? Think it has something to do with the text along the left side, the original idea was to try get a typeface which looked quite similar to the cast iron letters used in the letterpress days, the picture is a greyscale image that was taken by myself of our 2 colour QM Heidelberg printing press at work.

• This is a very brief layout of how the inners could be laid out, with a full colour image bled entirely off the page which could be either positioned right or left? on the opposing side there could be a heading which is positioned centrally, which runs along the length of three columns. The font used is a Serif Font called "Trajan Pro" again this was just used as a draft to show body in the columns.
