Introspection

This Brief was to come up with some designs for the Branding of the 2009 London show at the Truman Breweries, Brick Lane. The name Introspection was brought up by one of the members of the group, Introspection meaning "Observation or examination of one's own mental and emotional state, mental processes, etc; the act of looking within oneself" In the first couple of designs I tried to incorporate that " Looking within oneself" to do that I tried to create a wireframe cone shape, almost trying to give the user an impression that they are looking into something.

Zine - Bleed

This Brief required me to individually and singularly, initiate, compose, edit, design produce and publish a 'Zine'.
The subject I decided to base my Zine on is the Print Trade, myself being in the Trade and working with people that have been in this trade for many years, I thought it would be appropriate to inform and bring to attention to designers what dire need the Print trade is in. It being in the state it is in I decided to name the zine bleed, I did this for two reasons, the first because the trade is almost bleeding slowly dying out, the second was to highlight a design element throughout the zine, I thought it would be appropriate for the front cover to have a solid colour and text bleed completely off the edges. (This element would be seen on every issue of the zine)
I also designed these front covers to only consist of two colours, by doing this it was more cost efficient i.e saving on printing plates and lithography set up charges (for example using two plates and two colour baths is going to be cheaper than four plates and 4 ink baths if it were to go on the 4 colour machines).

Aviation Font

This Brief was to design a font around aviation. To begin I decided to look at Aeroplane wings & Helicopter blades to try get an idea of the sort of lines I wanted to use. After looking at these pictures I came up with a few concepts which didn't seem to work so instead of trying to force a design out I decided to look at different pictures i.e Vapour Trails, Explosions etc for inspiration/ Eventually I came up with an idea based upon aeroplane explosions,  I imagined these huge pieces of warped, twisted metal falling from the sky almost taking shape of the letters, almost like the plane giving out its last message.

Hybrid

In this Brief I had to come up with a design, which represented three cities, Manchester, Salford and Birmingham the design had to incorporate a link between all the cities. I visited all the cities to see if I could find some sort of comparison between them. I did notice that all the cities were quite heavily built up with large towering buildings within the centre of the cities, and small canals leaking through the cities.
